HP Laptops are some of the most the most reliable computers in the
market worldwide but its hinges have severe fatigue. As an HP laptop user, I
have been using an HP 15-r031si for about ten years now and experienced the
issue in the third year. Now I have been using another HP 15 variant and
experienced the same right hinge problem again.
When it comes to quality, everyone knows that HP laptops are the best
whether for personal or professional use and I think HP should fix the right
hinge issue. The left hinge is just fine but the right-side hinge is the
problem all the time as it carries the whole weight and is made of thin
metal.
So today I am going to show you a guide on how you can easily fix HP 15
Laptop right-side Hinge yourself at home using basic parts and tools.
First thing you will need the right Screwdriver to remove the
screws attaching the hinges to the laptop cover. Carefully open the screen
cover to access the six screws attaching both left and right hinges. The
things you will need are a Hand Extra Saw, Piece of Metal, Superglue,
Sharpening Feiler, Lightweight Steel/Aluminium Strip (Mostly used
to Bind Wall Calendars), Double Sided Tape, Dark Tape, Scissor &
Plier. All the tools will help you complete the process efficiently.
Step-By-Step Guide:
Ø Start by measuring
the metal against the breaking point of the hinge and cut about 3cm or
depending on the length you need to join.
Ø Use the hand saw
to cut the metal in the middle less the 1cm, the cut hole will be pressed down
from where the hinged snapped so that it can hold the hinge.
Ø Align the broken
hinge with the cut piece of metal while making sure it fits the original break
point.
Ø Now bind the Hinge
& Metal using Steel/ Aluminium Strip using a Plier. Make sure you force
the joining metal to conform with the angle of the original Hinge so that
it aligns.
Ø After binding the two
metals, place the hinge where it snapped making sure the cut hole joins the hinge
handle when pressed down through the narrow saw cut hole.
Ø Now pull up the screen
cover to make sure the hinge aligns with the screw holes in that position. If
not, make some adjustments to the joining metal or try bending the hinge
gently. Don’t use much force or the remaining hinge will snap again!!
Ø Now that the Hinge
aligns, use the Plier to press the joining metal to the hinge arm to put it in
a fixed position aligned.
Ø So now that it is
fixed in the same position, use the Super Glue by dropping bits of it where you
joined and bound the metals to make it tighter.
Ø Wait for it dry
Ø There should be
hump where you joined the metals which will block the front screen cover to
close accurately. You must use the Sharpening Feiler to level the metal
& reduce the hump, do it gently until you get to acceptable level with the
hinge.
Ø Now that
everything is at the correct level, pull the back cover to replace the hinge.
Ø Put back all the
screws to bind the cover with the left and right hinges.
Ø Remove the old
Double Tape on the front cover & put a new one.
Ø Put back the front
cover, Note: that the front cover may not Close completely as before
because of extra metal put on the hinge pushing the cover up. You may use a Dark
Tape together with bits of Super Glue to seal the gap that doesn’t
close completely.
Ø Then now you are Done!
Congratulations, you successfully fixed HP Laptop Hinge
using basic tools and parts.
