Microsoft windows was around for a very long time and every latest addition of its operating system comes bloated or heavy on some computer. Many users are struggling keeping up with frequent changes and now looking for a way on how to replace Windows with Ubuntu Linux completely. A lot of processes draining memory and paid applications ad to the list users don’t like.
So today we are showing you how you can easily replace Windows with
Ubuntu Linux and still keep working normally without glitches. This guide is
ideal for users with low memory computers especially 4GB Ram is a good start.
We focus on the memory because is an important factor when the computer start
get very slow. Because the current Windows 11 will use up to 60% of 4GB Ram
before you even run any application as compared to around 1.2GB or less usage
on Ubuntu Linux.
This is what makes Ubuntu Linux more interesting and attractive because
it doesn’t drain too much memory and that allow your PC to run smoothly. The
other important aspect is Windows Apps that some of them are just not available
on Ubuntu Linux or any other Linux operating system. This is one of the most
thing which makes users reluctant to switch to Ubuntu.
Today we a sharing everything you will need to replace Windows with
Ubuntu and still get productive. The first thing you will need is the latest Ubuntu
Image which you can download. Note that you can still run both Windows and
Ubuntu on the same PC but in this case, we are replacing Windows entirely. We
will provide a guide on how to run both Windows and Ubuntu on the same PC
later.
Now you can start by creating a bootable USB with the Ubuntu Linux
image downloaded using Rufus or any other tool you might have. Set your PC to
boot from the USB in the BIOS settings. You may need to format the disk before
installing by selecting delete entire disk during installation. Connect the bootable
USB and switch ON your PC to proceed with installation. Follow the on-screen
instructions and select appropriate settings according to your preferences.
Complete the remaining steps and set username and password then continue until setup
complete. Note: Do not remove the USB until the system tells you after
the restart option appears!! If you remove installation USB before then it won’t
boot accurately.
Now that the installation is complete, we need to setup the necessary
apps which will allow us to work normally in Ubuntu Linux the same way we would
on Windows. You will need the following Apps to make it happen: OnlyOffice
(Microsoft Office Replacement), Thunderbird (Outlook Replacement), SMPlayer/VLC
(For Video & Audio), Scribus (Replacement for inDesign or Canva), Notepad++
(Text Editor), HPLIP Tool if using HP Printers, If you want to print
wirelessly you can also install Linux CUPS and additionally you can
install GIMP to work with graphics etc.
Keep in mind and that some of the Apps mentioned above may require
Terminal to install them. The Bash strings for each App is available on
their website for reference when installing.
After installing all those Apps, then you will see that your working
environment is more like the traditional Windows workspace without spending money.
First make sure that before installing the Apps, run the sudo apt update
in the terminal so that the latest Apps can be downloaded and ready to be deployed.
I hope to tutorial will help you replace Windows with Ubuntu Linux and
regain lost memory for a fast efficient PC.
